For most of her life, Glenda has been overweight and suffering from different health conditions - asthma, breast cancer, high blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
She was diagnosed with asthma at the age of five, and subject to injections to improve the condition. Unfortunately, the injections caused drastic weight gain, and since then Glenda has struggled with her weight. She sunk into bad habits of binge eating and yo-yo dieting, eventually making the weight even harder to shift.
In 2007 Glenda was diagnosed with breast cancer and the chemo- and radiation therapy left her fatigued, unmotivated and frankly at her wits’ end.
"The doctor encouraged me to go on anti-depressants after breast cancer," Glenda says. "I soon realised this was the worst thing I could have done as it made me more fatigued."
All Glenda could do for a number of years after her breast cancer treatment was to work, sleep and rest while trying to raise three children. Once she came off the anti-depressants, she slowly regained her energy.
At the same time, Glenda's cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar levels were steadily increasing. Her doctor encouraged her to take medications to manage her growing list of health conditions but she didn't like the side effects of the drugs.
"I tried two different types of cholesterol tablets, but the side effects didn't seem worth it. I then refused the blood pressure medication, but I also didn't want to have a heart attack because I wouldn't take the medications."
Desperate for a better solution, Glenda decided to try losing weight instead. On her search for a weight loss solution that she could learn from and apply to her everyday life, Glenda came across the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet. She signed up and hasn’t looked back.
"I joined the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet because it's scientifically based and you know it covers all the vitamins and minerals you need in your diet too, so you don't have to worry about taking supplements because you are trying to lose weight," she says.
On the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet, Glenda lost 23 kg*, and when she had a blood test soon after completing the program, her blood sugar levels and blood pressure was normal and her cholesterol had dropped.
*In 6 months. Individual results may vary.
"I am so much healthier, I can move more freely, my self-confidence and energy levels have increased. I am happy to go out and meet people now, and most importantly, I don't have to go on any medications now," Glenda says.
Since completing the 12 Week Program, Glenda has lost even more weight and she continues to enjoy the benefits of the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet.
"The menu plan is great, as is the shopping list," she says. "Having the menu plan means I don't have to think about what to cook each night. I always have the necessary food in the house because the shopping list automatically adjusts for you to buy for your family."
She's celebrating her newfound health with a cruise around Australia and she would like to apply what she's learned about healthy eating while on holiday.
"I feel my goal weight with the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet is natural for my build. I hope to at the very least maintain what I am now. I then want to learn to maintain weight loss for life," Glenda says.
